FRIDAY EIGHTEENTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR II
Nahum 2:1,3,3:1-3,6-7, Matthew 16:24-28
ONLY GOD CAN PRESERVE US
An average human being does not like stress. We are careful not to put our lives in danger, thus, we do not like to take some risks. Even in religious parlance, some of us do not like stress; we make a lot of compromises in our Christian faith out of fear and pleasure. We refuse to say the truth, give and fight for justice and we store up what we have instead of giving to the poor. Jesus tells us in the gospel reading of today, that we should not think that we are saving or keeping our lives by ignoring the good things we should have done. We should therefore be ready as Christians to undergo some forms of persecution and hardship, we should stand for what is right and carry our crosses like Jesus, only then can we be sure that Jesus will recognize us. Those who seek only pleasure and enjoyment on earth will discover that they have lost their lives in its entirety when Jesus calls us to account for our lives. God help us. Amen.
