Sixth week of Easter
Acts 16: 11-15, John 15:26-16:4
Have you ever wondered how the
Christian faith came into Africa and became a very strong force among the
people? Apart from the zeal and sacrifices of the missionaries, there is a
supernatural influence in conversation. We see it very clearly in the first
reading of today that the Holy Spirit is the principal agent of evangelisation.
It was not the eloquence of the Apostles or their forceful preaching that
converted Lydia and others; though those qualities are needed. It was the Holy
Spirit who went ahead of the Apostles and missionaries to prepare the minds of
the people to receive the word of God.
The Holy Spirit is still very
active in our world today just as on the day of Pentecost. Many of us are not
able to recognize the voice of God inside us because of sin and evil thoughts.
We should therefore be always conscious of the actions of the Holy Spirit in
our lives. We should know that most of our achievements have been made possible
because the Spirit of God always go ahead of us to make things easy for us. Let
us therefore always commit our actions to God our father, and he will send the
advocate to soften and level the ground for us. Spirit of God; come and fall
afresh on us. Amen
