Fr Ebuka Umekachikelu, MSP - Homily Holy Thursday, April 18, 2019

Today we celebrate the gift of the Eucharist. Christ left a memorial of himself under forms of bread and wine for his apostles and all his followers. Through the Eucharist our Lord is perpetually present in our midst to accompany us on life’s journey. The Eucharist tells us we are not alone, there is a living presence, a helper always close at hand that we have.  He also invites each one of us to be like him in this great act of love and self-giving. The highest expression of love is in humble service to the least of the brethren. This is the meaning of the washing of the feet that every follower of Christ is called to. We can touch others deeply by humbling ourselves to serve others especially the very vulnerable.

Lord! Teach us how to Love as you did. Take away our selfishness and pride. Grant us to venerate you always in this sacred mystery of your body and blood that you left us as a memorial your passion, that we may be ever worthy of the fruit of your redemption.  Amen
