Fr. Michael Osatofoh Eninlejie, MSP - Homily for Saturday Week 15 Ordinary time - July 18, 2020

SATURDAY 15TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR II
MICAH 2:1-5, MATTHEW 12:14-21
Many actions we carry out start from our thoughts. Whether good or evil, we plan things in our minds before executing them. Our thoughts therefore have a lot of contributions to our decision making. This is why  our thought is part of what we will account for on the last day. God will judge what we think about.
In the first reading of today, we hear the prophet Micah tell us that those who take their time to plan evils and go ahead to execute them will not go unpunished. We therefore need to be careful of what we think about, because we become what we think. We should also be careful of allowing the thoughts of others to influence us. What do you think of when you are alone? What type of discussion do you have with your friends and acquaintances? Our thoughts can either make or break us.
In the gospel reading of today, we see how the pharisees became jealous of Jesus and started discussing on how to destroy him. Let us never forget that bad thoughts corrupt the mind and evil company corrupts good manners. If you are able to control what you think about, you would have solved most of your problems. God does not only know us, he knows us through and through, including our thoughts. May our thoughts not destroy us, but lead us to God and bring us closer to his blessings. Amen.
