TUESDAY 14TH WEEK IN ORDINARY
TIME YEAR II
HOSEA 8:4-7,11-13, MATTHEW
9:32-37
We live in a world today where
people do not like to be told what to do. Everyone wants to be a master of
his/her own. Moral norms has also suffered in our society as people believe
they know what is good for them.
It will be a frustrating effort
today if someone does things, hoping to be appreciated. Many people today
criticize and condemn even good deeds, just to ridicule and bring down others
who they think is doing better than they expect. Jesus was not exempted from
such harsh treatment by the people. We see how his good act of curing a
demoniac was used to insult him.
Jesus in looking at the whole
scenario, only pitied their ignorance. Many good people have become discouraged
because of baseless criticisms. Though it is true that the labourers may be
few, the efforts of the few are most times thwarted.
In the first reading of today, we
see how after condemning all their prophets, the people of Israel decided to
behave the way they wanted, not wanting any correction or admonition. They
committed more sins and forgot God; this brought curses and the wrath of God upon them. Let us
therefore continue to listen to the voice of God and appreciate the work of God
in other people. When we condemn people and what they do without any reason, we
have made ourselves gods, and when we fail to listen to correction and
admonition, we are on our way to destruction. May God guide our ways in his
peace. Amen.
